LEH, Sept 7: President, Hanuran Movement Inc, Korea, Hong Yeon Kyung, inaugurated the Dr B R Ambedkar Public Library, here today.
The library was inaugurated in presence of Director, Korean Cultural Centre, Councellor, Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Kim Kum Pyoung, Director, Secretariat of GKL Foundation, Korea, Park Chan Oh, Leh MLA Nawang Rigzin Jora, president, Won Buddhist Charitable Society, India Padma Namgyal Ajita, Councillor Upper Leh, Gelong Lobzang Nyantak and vice presidents of Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), Leh, P T Kunzang and Rincehn Namgyal.
The books, shelves and infrastructures in the public library have been sponsored by Hanuran Movement Inc, Korea through Won Buddhism India. The library is housed in the Dr B R Ambedkar Shopping Complex of LBA located in the heart of Leh city.
Speaking on the occasion, Hong Yeon Kyung said that the purpose of supporting such a public library was to help preserve Ladakh’s uniquely rich culture, tradition and its environment for future generations of the region. While appreciating Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage, she also expressed concerns on deteriorating state of the environment and advised for the conservation of the nature.
Nawang Rigzin Jora advised LBA in particular and Ladakhis in general not to forget great translator of the 10th century, Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo, who is said to have built over 100 monasteries across the Himalayas from Ladakh, Himachal up to some parts in Tibet.
Councillor Gelong Lobzang Nyabtak, who was instrumental in acquiring the land on which the library is built, also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, while welcoming the guests, Rinchen Namagyal said that it had been a dream for the last 25 years and with the support from Hanuran Movement Inc Korea and Won Buddhism India, the library could see light of the day finally. He said very soon it will be made a digital library.
