Dr Gagan endorses role of ASHA workers in NHM

JAMMU, Feb 8: A three day “refresher” and orientation course of the ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers was conducted at Community Health Centre R.S Pura in which MLA R.S Pura Dr. Gagan Bhgat was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion Dr.Gagan Bhagat said ASHA workers have done tremendous job in the implementation of several Central Health  programme , especially the success of National Health Mission (NHM) is due to the hard work, sincerity and dedication of the ASHA workers. Without caring about their own families ASSHA workers had devoted their life to the society and this sacrifice needs to be appreciated at every level, he added.
He supported the genuine demand for increasing incentives of the ASHA, providing accommodation, or resting rooms at the major hospitals across the states, providing training to the eligible workers and regularization in the paramedical faculty in Jammu & Kashmir Health Department, social security benefits like pension, gratuity, maternity benefits, and minimum wages of at least Rs 15000 per month for ASHA workers.
He further demanded that ASHA workers be covered under Aam Aadmi Bima Yojna, payment of all incentives in time, implementation of January 2014 Central Government order for monthly payment of Rs 1000, provision of changing rooms, ID cards, two uniforms and promotion as ANM after training and benefits of BPL Cards. The ASHA workers from the R.S Pura block and Suchetgarh zone participated in the course.
Dr. Gagan Bhagat also laid special emphasis and advised the ASHA workers to constitute a 10 members Block Committee.
The  MLA later held a meeting with ASHA workers and  Radha Rani their representative demanded regularization of their jobs as village-level Govern-ment employees and till then their minimum wages should be fixed at Rs 15,000 per month. She also informed Dr.Bhagat that the ASHA workers in the State are not getting incentives for the last six months due to which they are  facing hardship.
