JAMMU, Feb 24: Dr Gaurav Dhar, a renowned cardiologist and an illustrious son of the soil hailing from J&K, has joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) USA after being appointed as Director of Interventional Cardiology.
Dr Gaurav who is son of Jagmohan Dhar (retired Joint Director of Industries) and Dr Phoola Kaul Dhar (retired Principal of Medical College Srinagar) completed his MBBS from Government Medical College Jammu after having studied at Burn Hall School Srinagar.
He cleared his USMLE, did Internal Medicine Residency at Louis A Weiss Hospital/ University of Chicago followed by a Cardiology Fellowship at Advocate Illinois Medical center in Chicago and then an Interventional Cardiology fellowship at the University of Chicago. An avid sportsperson having represented the State at National level, Dr Gaurav is nephew of Dr Girija Dhar (ex-Chairman, Public Service Commission).
Earlier, Dr Dhar was at Michigan State University in East Lansing, where he was a professor of medicine and was named Teacher of the Year three times. He was also the Medical Director of the Structural Cardiac Interventional Program for the Sparrow Healthcare System in Lansing, as well as the Associate Program Director for the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program at Michigan State.
“We are very fortunate to recruit Dr Dhar, a nationally recognized expert in structural heart disease, to initiate our program at UAMS Health,” stated the Director UAMS, adding, under his guidance, we have begun left atrial occlusion procedures to prevent strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation who can’t take anticoagulants.
