JAMMU, Apr 6: Dr Gautam Sharma, Dental Specialist at University of Jammu and president of Indian Dental Association (IDA) Jammu, attended a three-day high end dental workshop at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
The workshop offered a unique opportunity to learn from and interact with the legendary periodontist and implantologist Prof Mariano Sanz from University Complutense of Madrid, Spain and renowned periodontal and implant microsurgeon Dr Hsun-Liang Chan from Ohio State University College of Dentistry, USA.
Dr Hsun-Liang Chan, provided first hand insights into intricacies of root coverage procedures and soft tissue augmentation around implants. Hands-on sessions on animal models facilitated by Prof Mariano Sanz and Dr Hsun-Liang Chan, allowing participants to refine their microsurgical skills and gain practical experience in soft tissue augmentation.
Dr Kunaal Dhingra was workshop convener. Dr Dhingra is Additional Professor, Periodontology Division, Centre for Dental Education and Research, AIIMS, New Delhi.
Hands-on microsurgical exercises under surgical microscope in animal jaw for root coverage, autogenous tissue harvesting (free gingival graft, connective tissue graft, de-epithelialized gingival graft, tuberosity graft) with coronally advanced and tunneling flaps, soft tissue substitutes with coronally advanced and tunneling flaps, suturing techniques, soft tissue augmentation in edentulous site, etc. were demonstrated by the experts and then performed by the participants.
