Jammu, Dec 23: In a path-breaking event, Principal Medical College Jammu Dr Ashutosh Gupta created history by appointing a lady doctor as first woman warden of boys hostel on the persistent demand of undergraduate and postgraduate students of GMC Jammu .
The residents of the hostel were projecting their demands regarding good food, water and sanitary facilities among many other issues.
In a meeting held in the office chambers of PMC Jammu with the students, Dr Harleen Kaur, Professor in the department of Microbiology, was appointed as first lady warden of the boys hostel on the demand of the students. Dr Kaur has earned her name during the Covid pandemic for her work and is very popular among student fraternity of GMC Jammu.
When asked from a student leader about the demand of appointing a lady doctor as their warden, a very heart touching reply was received , he said , “Sir, don’t we have mothers at homes ? We feel more safe and secure in the presence of our mothers they can understand our problems very well and will be a better option than a male warden”.
Appointment of Dr Kaur as a warden of boys hostel is being seen as the beginning of a new era in the Government Medical College Jammu for hostelers.
