Dr Jamwal flags off progressive farmers’ exposure tour

JAMMU, Mar 6: A group of 80 progressive farmers from different districts of Jammu Division was flagged off by Director Agriculture Jammu, Dr S S Jamwal for an inter State exposure visit cum training programme outside the State from here, today.
The Exposure visit is being conducted by the Farmers Training Centre of the Department under Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA).
While interacting with the farmers on the occasion, Dr Jamwal said that the tour was being organized under ATMA with a specific objective of acquainting the farmers with modern techniques for commercial agriculture, emerging trends in organic farming, processing marketing and seed production aspects of different crops. He impressed upon the farmers to interact with the farm scientists, extension functionaries and research workers to get update methodology in cultivation of crops on scientific lines.
He further said that the farmers will also be made aware of the organic farming in adoption and certification of different kind of agriculture procedure so that they may get remunerative price by these farming practices in the State.
Deputy Director Agriculture, (Training) Sudesh Koul said that farmers will visit organic farming, Kudrati Kheti and protected cultivation farms at Pinglewara, Jullunder, Dev Sanskrit Vishwavidayalaya, Haridwar Centre of Excellence of Vegetables  (CEC), Gharnoda Karnal, Indian Remote Sensing Institute, Centre Soil and Water Conservation Research Institute,  Forest Research Institute, and Shehesterdhara Watershed at Dehradun.
Joint Director Agriculture, (Inputs) Sunil Sharma, Deputy Director (Central) C M Sharma, Chief Agriculture Officer, Onkar Chowdhary and other senior officers were present.
