UDHAMPUR, Mar 30: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh laid the foundation stone of a 135-meter-long double-lane motorable bridge at Gambhir Nallah, tehsil Majalta, fulfilling a long-pending demand of over 50 years.

Despite persistent public requests, the project had been overlooked for the last over half a century, but under the BJP Government, led by Narendra Modi the neglected infrastructure projects have been revived and put back on track and taken up as priority, said the Minister speaking to the media after the ceremony.
Highlighting the importance of the bridge, Dr. Jitendra Singh stated that it will connect the main Dhar road directly with the Tehsil Headquarters of Majalta, reducing travel distance by 1.5 kilometers and bypassing the landslide-prone Majalta Link Road. Dr. Singh said “The bridge will benefit approximately 1.5 lakh people in and around Majalta, facilitating better access to markets, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and Government offices.” The project is expected to be completed within 36 months.
Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that the bridge will boost local economic activities, allowing farmers and artisans to transport their agricultural and local products to nearby markets efficiently. The bridge will connect Battal, Majalta, Jansal, Chaini, Satrari, Manwal, and Pinger, significantly improving socio-economic conditions in the region.
Dr. Jitendra Singh also highlighted other key development projects in the region which have neglected and were stalled for decades in the erstwhile Governments such as the Mansar Lake Project which has been included in the newly launched SWADESH Scheme, aimed at boosting tourism and cultural heritage.
The Mantalai Project which has been revived after being abandoned by the Congress Government 35 years ago; now developed into a State-of-the-Art Wellness Centre after efforts of the BJP Government, he said.
Dr Jitendra Singh also recalled that Udhampur district has been ranked among the top three in the country for the construction of rural roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for five consecutive years. Expressing his satisfaction that Lavender Startup ‘Purple Revolution initiated in Doda district has now expanded to Ladi and Basantgarh, boosting agriculture-based entrepreneurship.
The function was attended by Dy CM, Surinder Choudhary and MLA Udhampur East R S Pathania besides prominent citizens of the area.
Earlier Dr Jitendra Singh straight way visited Hiranagar from Jammu to meet the families of two police personnel who attained martyrdom on Friday at Jakhole village in Kathua district while fighting terrorists. Dr Jitendra Singh first visited the village Londi in Hiranagar tehsil and met the family members of martyr Jaswant Singh there. He later visited Khanna Chak also in Hiranagar and met the family members of martyr Balwinder Singh Chib. He expressed his total sympathies with two families and assured all help and assistance from the Government and party to them.
Later talking to reporters, Dr Jitendra Singh said two youth of Kathua district attained martyrdom in their fight with terrorists. He said this area is prone for the valour and bravery of the people and during British rule they had earned Victoria Cross which was a prestigious award those days.
Dr Jitendra Singh said whatever possible will be done for the families. He said though they will get compensation from Police Department and Government, besides jobs under SRO, out of his MP LAD Fund memorials will be built in their name so that they would be remembered for centuries together by the coming generations.
Dr Jitendra Singh said both these families for generations have been giving sacrifices for their motherland. He said “It is my duty as a public representative to see that both these get all support and assistance from Government.
Expressing his solidarity with their families, he announced Government jobs for the spouses of the martyrs, namely the wife of Balwant Singh (MA, B.Ed.) and the wife of Balwinder (Class 12 pass) he also announced a relief package of around Rs70 lakh for the families.
First one school has been named as Shaheed Jasrotia in Hiranagar and on the same pattern their memorials will be created in the area”, he added.
He said the loss which these families suffered could not be fulfilled. “I have talked to administration,. Both families will get jobs under SRO. They will also be provided all financial help,” he added.
“The people will come and express their sympathies with the martyrs families,. After passage of time they will get involved in their own schedule work but the coming generations should remember them for which the memorials in their name will be built”, he added.
The Union Minister, while paying his condolences to family members of the two brave-hearts assured all support from Government and party to them. He said BJP is solidly behind the families of martyrs’ who attained supreme sacrifices.
