BHADERWAH, June 4:  Union Minister of State for Sports (Independent Charge), Dr Jitendra Singh today asked the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan to re-orient itself according to current aspirations and requirements of youth of the country.
“Concept and objectives might have been different at the time when   Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan was conceived, but at present such institutions can not be seen exclusively for youth activities but for inclusive and larger role of youth of the society,” he said while addressing a Convention  of the NYK Sangathan at Bhaderwah in Doda, here today.
Director General of the NYK Sangathan, Maj Gen (Retd) Dilawar Singh, other national level functionaries of the organization, besides Sunil Sharma. J&K Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports, Transport (Independent Charge);   Dilip  Singh Parihar,  MLA Bhaderwah,    Shakti Raj Parihar, MLA Doda ; ADDC Doda and other officers  were present on the occasion.
While elaborating, the Union Minister stressed that the NYK should play an active role in promoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives with main objective of grooming youth as architect of modern India. “The organization and its Co-ordinators should re-define their priorities and must perform the role of not only channelizing the youth energy but also utilizing the same in larger interest of the whole society,” he said.
Stressing that employability and not employment has to be priority, the Union Minister highlighted slew of incentives being offered by Modi Government for encouraging youth to set up their own business and become an entrepreneur.
Dr Jitendra Singh, who represents Doda- Udhampur Parliamentary constituency, also drew attention towards the Prime Minister’s mantra of maximum governance with minimum government.  “Keeping in spirit with the PM’s call, most of the   youth going abroad for orientation and other tours, will be led by youth icons instead of Sports Minister or the Secretary,” Dr Singh said and mentioned that  he voluntarily opted out from going to China along with a delegation of youth for three-day tour there from June 16 .  “The message should go out that we are here for serving the youth and not to get served,” the Union Minister said.
In another function by the Central Body of NYK Sangathan in collaboration with Government Degree College Bhaderwah and the Department of Defence, Dr Jitendra Singh presented merit certificates and medals to the meritorious students.
The Union Minister also handed over an Ambulance to the Navodaya Vidyalaya, which was donated by NYK Sangathan.
