Dr Jitendra for exploiting talent of J&K youth to global opportunities

JAMMU, June  3: Maintaining that Jammu and Kashmir is all set to lead the country in nation building by tapping the calibre, capacity, aptitude and potential of the youth, Union Minister of State in PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, with independent charge of North Eastern States, Dr Jitendra Singh today said that this talent has to be exploited to the opportunities available all over the globe.
Addressing a function at Government PG College for Women Gandhi Nagar on the occasion of signing of MoU on’Tele Education Networks of J&K’ between Development & Educational Communication Unit (DECU), ISRO, Ahmadabad, Department of Science & Technology and Department of Higher Education, Government of J&K here , he said despite facing obstacles, J&K youth continue to perform at the national level including the prestigious Civil Services Examinations.
Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Director DECU, Virendra Kumar, Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, Vice Chancellor Central University Jammu, Dr Ashok Aima, Principals of GGM Science College, GCW Gandhi Nagar, senior officers from Higher Education and School Education departments besides students of the colleges were present on the occasion.
Dr Jitendra Singh said “we could have signed the MoU at New Delhi but I deliberately shifted it here because I thought it should be in J&K to make the students of the State aware that what avenues are available to them”.
He said the students of J&K are doing well as in the Civil Services examination this time a youth from the State got 10th rank while last time a student from the State got the second rank. This is a new kind of awakening due to globalisation. The youth now come to know about the opportunities available all over the globe and they want to take advantage of them, he added.
He said the Atomic Centre and Department of Space came into existence in India in late fifties and Dr Homi Baba of Atomic Energy   from India was the first scientist of the world who said that he will make the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes. At that time people laughed at him but he proved it. In the coming times it will be most used for peaceful energy, he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that the Modi Government has vindicated the dream of Homi Baba.
He said likewise Vikram Sarabhai who is founder of Space Department in India gave a theory that West is only going into the Space but India has a capacity of going beyond that. He said that Space Headquarters are at Banagalore and that of Atomic Energy are in Mumbai. These are the only two organisations whose offices are outside Delhi.
Dr Jitendra Singh said the successor of Vikram Sarabhai was a Jammu born Scientist, Dr Satish Dhawan. While referring Dr Dhawan, the Minister said it is imperative that “we have to know that who are real icons”.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that India has become now so advanced in space that Mangalyan pictures are being obtained by NASA. “Our Mars Mission is indigenous and our scientists are all Indians”, he added.
He said Chandrayan Mission is India’s Space Department’s biggest achievement in space. The pictures taken from there revealed that there is water on Moon and now we are following it with more research, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari said that the MoU will go a long way in bridging the knowledge deficit by taking the world class teaching and learning practices to the remotest areas in the State. “Tele Education Networks of J&K is a step forward for greater reliance on secondary resources and materials for knowledge generation,” he said.
Bukhari said that the youth of the State are full of potential and should be exposed to technological advancements for their prosperous future.
Earlier, Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon informed the gathering that the ‘Tele Education Networks of J&K’ will be an interface between school education, higher education, cluster universities, State universities and Central universities. Currently 31 colleges are connected with the network which will be extended cover 97 colleges of the State apart from different universities, he added.
