Dr Jitendra for making Kathua Campus of JU a seat of learning

KATHUA, June 20: Kathua Campus, University of Jammu today organized an Interaction Session on the theme “Challenges in Governance, Personnel Training and Development” here at its campus.
Union Minister in PMO with independent charge of North Eastern States, Dr. Jitendra Singh was the chief guest on the occasion while Prof. R D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu presided over the Session.
Dr. Jitendra Singh shared his experiences around the context of governance and political administration on the occasion. He opined that good governance rests on fundamental principles of participation, ownership and empowerment, transparency and accountability, wherein the prime focus on personnel training and consequent development is sustained all the time. The good governance requires political reform and renewal which can only be done by strengthening the accountability of representative bodies, by encouraging public debate, he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh said good governance comprises the mechanisms, processes and institutions, through which citizens and groups articulate their interests, exercise their legal rights, meet their obligations and mediate their differences. He emphasized that governance facilitates the interaction between government and citizens.
Dr. Singh, while appreciating the efforts of Kathua Campus said that a quality Campus at Kathua will benefit the entire aligning region Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and J&K. He further suggested University should design programmes with newness in the curricula which offer a roadmap to the students towards job oriented trainings like civil services training programmes, atomic and space research and blue economy programmes etc. He also announced the establishment of specialised Skill Development Centre at Kathua Campus as collaborative stance with Centre support.
Dr Singh said that as an MP he owns this University and will contribute to make it an important seat of learning. He also appreciated the role of VC, Prof R D Sharma and Rector Prof Neelu Rohmetra. He said Prof. Rohmetra is a competent and focused academician and her efforts in making this University a seat of learning will definitely bear fruit. He said small issues like transfer of land will also be sorted out soon.
Dr Singh advised both VC and Rector to introduce certain specialized and exclusive courses in departments like business administration so that this University can attain its unique place and distinction. He congratulated candidates of Kathua campus for their meritorious performance and campus placement in some of renowned companies.
On the occasion the book titled ‘Cross-Cultural Management: Practice and Research’ authored by Professor Neelu Rohmetra and Dr. Anil Gupta was also released. Dr. Jitendra Singh also felicitated MBA students of the Kathua Campus for securing Campus Placements.
Professor R.D. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, delivered the presidential remarks. He said that good governance pays a large development dividend and is an essential prerequisite for human development. According to him governance entails an administration that is sensitive and responsive to the development needs of the people. He also congratulated Kathua Campus and lauded its efforts in organizing various academic activities despite various challenges and constraints. He appreciated the faculty members for the MBA and MCA programmes at Kathua Campus for grooming the students in the right direction.
Earlier, Professor Neelu Rohmetra, Rector Kathua Campus set the tone of the interaction session and also welcomed the dignitaries. She highlighted the context of political and institutional environment that upholds human rights, democratic principles and the rule of law. She added that good governance is the accountable management of human, natural, economic and financial resources for the purpose of equitable and sustainable development. Governance framework must be based on an understanding of the importance and commitment to further promote resilient, legitimate and inclusive national and local institutions, as well as inclusive participation in public processes.
Besides MLA Kathua, Rajiv Jasrotia, principals of various private colleges and representatives of civil society the function was attended by the students, research scholars, faculty members, district administration, alumni of Kathua Campus, corporate guests, prominent citizens, and the staff.
