NEW DELHI, Feb 27: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today formally inaugurated the renovated new office area of NITI Aayog on the 5th floor of the NITI Bhawan building. He was accompanied by MoS (I/C) Housing Hardip Singh Puri. NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar and CEO Amitabh Kant were also present.
Expressing his feelings of joy and satisfaction on the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the erstwhile Planning Commission was reincarnated under Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the “National Institute for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog”, which is a premier think-tank of the Government of India and is mandated to develop as a state-of-the-art Resource Centre, with necessary resources, knowledge and skills, which will enable it to act with speed, promote research and innovation, provide strategic policy vision and deal with contingent issues.
In keeping with its name as the “National Institute for Transforming India” (NITI), Dr Jitendra Singh said, it is in the fitness of things that the NITI Aayog has also decided to bring about a transformation in the working environment of its office complex housed in the NITI Bhawan. He hoped that the new renovated working area will make the working environment inclusive, transparent, environment friendly and paper-less.
Dr Jitendra Singh hoped that the new office area will serve as a role model of a modern government office and will be an example and benchmark for other Ministries.
Pertinent to mention that a space of 40,000 sq. ft. on the 5th floor of NITI Bhawan has been renovated and revamped into a modern work-space with enhanced seating capacity. As a result, while earlier there was space for just around 120-125 officials, now there will be a seating capacity of nearly 400 officials. Transparency has been introduced by minimizing the solid walls and the image of the government office has been given a new look with the use of glass.
After the inauguration, all the dignitaries went around and had a look of the new office area.
CEO of NITI Aayog Amitabh Kant explained the salient features of the new office area to the dignitaries. He also emphasized that the new work environment will significantly enhance the functional capacity of the officials and professionals engaged in NITI Aayog.
