NEW DELHI, Nov 19: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh has lauded the crucial role played by Jammu & Kashmir Income Tax Authorities in carrying forward the Government of India’s “demonetisation” drive effectively in the State.
He said, the real-time monitoring and prompt response by the Income Tax Authorities helped in checking leakage and conversion of banned currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 during the first two to three days of the announcement of decision. As a result of this, he said, while in the Jammu region this instantly brought to a halt the attempt by some jewellery houses to convert the banned currency into white currency, in the Kashmir valley this acted as a deterrent against similar efforts being tried by the agents of terror outfits.
Speaking after the inauguration of an exhibition of paintings by Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (CIT) J&K,Sangeeta Gupta here today, Dr Jitendra Singh had a special word of praise for her highly committed and professional approach which helped keeping a track of certain suspected income tax accounts which were likely to indulge in mischief of such conversions both in Jammu and Kashmir regions.
Dr Jitendra Singh also complimented Sangeeta and her team for the lesser reported fact that under the IDS (Income Declaration Scheme), Jammu had collected highest deposits in the entire Northern Zone. For this, he also complimented the people of Jammu for being more scrupulous and forward – looking in their approach towards economic management and said, this could be an example for other regions also to follow.
In the times to come, we would have to adopt our social attitudes in tune with the emerging economic scenario worldwide, said Dr Jitendra Singh and expressed satisfaction that in spite of terrorism and turmoil of last three months, the people of Jammu & Kashmir had decided to move on with the rest of the country.
Appreciating the creative talent of Sangeeta Gupta, Dr Jitendra Singh said, he has come across a number of senior officers in All India Services who have unexpectedly high talent for creativity, be it in the form of writing, painting, sculpturing or any other field. This only goes on to show, he said, that our officers have a versatile vision which can be effectively put to use even in the discharge of their official duties through innovative methods inspired by the underlying creativity.
