GUWAHATI, Aug 2: At a meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and representatives of civil society here today, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh announced the launching of Modi government’s innovative Raksha Bandhan Insurance campaign of connecting the forthcoming festival with recently introduced social security Insurance schemes in order to achieve the noble objective of ensuring that each sister who ties a Rakhi on the wrist of her brother is gifted with an Insurance scheme for herself and her family.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said that in the last 14 months, Prime Minister has launched a series of pro-poor schemes and has been taking a personal interest for the welfare of the weaker sections of society. Just as Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana is a landmark in the history of independent India with a unique offer of opening bank accounts with ‘zero-balance’ so that every citizen of this country may feel proud to possess a bank account and an ATM card even if he does not have any money to deposit in that, similarly, Raksha Bandhan related campaign is aimed at taking the benefit of new pension schemes like “Atal Pension Yojana” to each and every woman of this country.
Elaborating on the campaign, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, the organization has taken upon itself the commitment to register life / accident insurance for at least 11000 women folk in each Assembly constituency of the country. This should not be difficult considering the fact that under the recently launched “Atal Pension Yojana” an amount of mere Rs.12 is sufficient to get this insurance, he explained. For those who avail of this scheme before the date of Raksha Bandhan, he said, the government and the organization will be providing facilities and holding camps to carry out the procedure with the minimal formality and without much documentation, he added.
Dr. Jitendra Singh further advised that while on one hand, each one of us should take the pledge that we would offer an insurance policy whenever a sister ties a Rakhi on our wrist, at the same time we can also spare amount from our resources to ensure mass insurance in large groups of women considering the fact that sparing Rs.12 for insurance of a single person is not a big amount. Such a historic initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not only a tribute to the women of this country, but also a commitment to the sanctity of the festival of Raksha Bandhan, he added.
In his own constituency also, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, he has made arrangement for mass Insurance of sisters whose husbands have been working in the defence forces or are posted in the border areas as well as war widows who lost their husbands in the defence of the nation.
In today’s workshop, which was also attended by Party office bearers and prominent representatives of civil society from various parts of Northeast, Dr. Jitendra Singh also displayed the simple form which had been provided for the purpose and explained in detail how the process would be carried on with the help of officials from the Banking sector. However, effort has been made to ensure that the drive is carried out with utmost ease and therefore all that we require is commitment to carry it out, he said.
On the occasion, Dr. Jitendra Singh also referred to a series of achievements of the Modi government in the last one year and called upon the Party men to go out to masses and educate them about the wide range of pro-poor and pro-farmer measures undertaken by the government, which is quite contrary to the false propaganda by some of the opposition parties. Referring to the Land Bill, he said, this is one of the best that could have ever been drafted and is, in fact, an improvement of the earlier draft prepared by the erstwhile UPA government.
