GUWAHATI, Sept 4: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today laid the foundation stone of seven-storey multiple market complex, unique of its kind in North East. The market complex will be located in the heart of Guwahati city, at “6 Mile”, Guwahati-Shillong Road.
Spread over 2007 square meters, the new market complex will be funded by the North Eastern Council(NEC), an affiliate of Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), and will be maintained by NERAMAC (North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation). In the first phase, Block-1 of the building will be developed upto fourth floor and later upto the seventh floor.
Secretary, North Eastern Council(NEC), Ram Muivah and head of NERAMAC Pankaj Choudhary joined the Minister in performing ceremonial “Bhumi Pujan”.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh disclosed that he and his team in the Ministry had been pursuing this project for the last three years but certain procedural issues led to the delay and finally, the construction work is starting after clearance from the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) . He said, he was proud that under the Modi government, his Ministry got the opportunity of taking up this multiplex project, which will be one of the landmark destinations in Guwahati, in the years to come.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, as per the plan, the multiplex market complex will have food point/cafeteria, spacious car parking area, an entire floor showcasing the products and artisans of North East, outlets for exclusive regional products etc. This will also provide a single-window for stakeholders among industry, traders and young start-ups, he said.
The building complex housing the market complex, Dr Jitendra Singh said, will be developed as “Green building”, one of the state-of-the-art landmarks in the region. The farmers and entrepreneurs will also be able to avail of the common platform to showcase their produce, he said.
Earlier, Dr Jitendra Singh addressed an “awareness workshop” on Article 370 abrogation and said, there is an opportunity to replicate in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, some of the best success stories from North East, which were initiated and accomplished by the Modi government.
