NEW DELHI, Dec 15: Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh here, today released ‘Aparajita’ book on Cancer Survivorship authored by renowned oncologist from Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Deepak Abrol.
Dr Abrol called on Dr Jitendra Singh at his residence in New Delhi. Dr Jitendra Singh appreciated the efforts of the Editorial Board and gave novel ideas to authors how to innovate to take the message of cancer awareness and survivorship to far-flung areas, a handout said.
Dr Jitendra Singh said cancer awareness is the key to early detection and prevention, adding, “all non communicable diseases can be best dealt with an integrated and holistic approach.” ‘Aparajita’–the Stories of Triumph– is a tool to demystify cancer and myths surrounding cancer. It’s an effort by the author through the First Cancer Survivorship group of Jammu and Kashmir– Kark Vijayan to tell the world that cancer is just a word and not a sentence.
The stories of triumph published in this book highlight that Cancer can be cured, if not treated, palliation can provide relief. The book is authored by Dr Deepak Abrol, Senior Consultant Radiation Oncology American Oncology Institute Jammu and Vice President NZAROI.
Advisor Authors are Dr Swarupa Mitra, Senior Consultant RGCI, and Dr Abhishek Shankar, Asst Professor, AIIMS Delhi. Editorial assistance has been provided by Arushi Sharma and Rudransh Abrol. The authors are of firm belief that the need of hour is to generate awareness at grassroots so that cancer can be detected early when it is curable. The unique aspect of this book is that it’s usually only celebrities coming up with their stories, but here patients of last row have presented themselves along with a Super Mom contest winner of Nepal treated at RGCI.
Book contains a chapter on Myth busters on cancer and provides certain insights for changing the perception of cancer as a disease that can be cured if detected early. The book has been published with an unrestricted educational grant from Lajwanti Bhagatnath Radiations of Hope Cancer Care Foundation and the royalty of the book will go to the Foundation for carrying out cancer awareness.
