*Says more Highway Villages coming up in Kathua

KATHUA, Feb 12: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Office, Personnel Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy & Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today chaired District Development Coordination & Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting to review the progress of various centrally sponsored schemes (CSS’s) being implemented in district Kathua.

The meeting held at Conference Hall of DC Office Complex Kathua was attended by DDC Chairperson, Mahan Singh, DDC Vice Chairperson, Raghunandan Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Rahul Yadav, President MC, Naresh Sharma, MC Lakhanpur Ravinder Sharma, MC Nagri Parole Anil Singh, MC Hiranagar Adv Vijay Kumar Sharma, MC Basohli Sumesh Sapolia, MC Billawar Uma Kant Basotra, BDC Chairpersons, DDC members and nominated members of DISHA committee besides District officers of different departments.
Addressing officers of district administration, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the aim of DISHA meeting is to identify any impediments in implementation of welfare schemes so that effective solutions can be worked out. He observed that the aim of welfare schemes is not only dissemination of benefits but that such benefits reach the genuine beneficiaries in a time bound manner.
He also emphasized on involvement of PRIs in smooth implementation of schemes on ground for better results. He called upon PRIs and District Administration to work in tandem for desired outcomes.
The Union Minister while taking comprehensive review of physical and financial achievements of various centrally sponsored schemes in the district regarding various schemes implemented by the PWD, PDD, Jal Shakti Department, Agriculture, Horticulture, Education, Social Welfare, Labor Department, Urban Development Department and other departments enjoined upon the concerned officers to ensure 100% coverage of beneficiaries under various schemes and impressed upon PRI’s to ensure all deserving people shall entail the benefit of these schemes.
Dr Singh informed that 04 new Highway Villages are coming up in and around National Highway in Kathua District viz. Taraf Manjali,, Taraf Bhajwal, Gurha Baildara & Gurha Mundian. He also revealed that NHAI is developing the area around gateway to J&K with various amenities like medical, recreational and others which will add aesthetic value to the landscape besides opening avenues for employment.
He also reviewed progress on the ongoing Mega Projects like Ujh, Shahpur Kandi Barrages, Biotech Park and called upon early completion of these projects as these are projects of extreme significance for the public in general and locals in particular.
At the outset, the District Development Commissioner Kathua, Rahul Yadav gave a power point presentation on the achievements and progress under different Centrally Sponsored Schemes and status of various development projects being executed by different departments and other agencies in the district.
It was informed in the meeting that under SBM the district has achieved 100% geo-tagging, under PMAY-U, 70% work has been completed, under AB-PMJAY 55% of the population has been covered. Besides, under MGNREGA targets have been achieved for the current year whereas 86% timely payments has been ensured.
The Union Minister of State directed the Deputy Commissioner to take on board the elected respresentatives for achieveing 100% saturation of AB-PMJAY in low performing areas. He also advised PRIs to come forward for identification & projection of eligible beneficiaries of prosthetic aids.
Regarding the issue of monkey menace highlighted by various representatives, Dr Singh suggested that the expertise of IIIM, SKUAST-J can be utilized for scientific solution of the problem so that only those crops are sown which are resistant to such attacks by monkeys.
Dr Singh also laid thrust on exploiting the scope for optimum use of Bamboo crop under Bamboo Mission as Kathua has abundance of Bamboo and this can pave the way for better earnings besides projecting the image of the district.
DDC Chairperson, Mahan Singh said Kathua district has huge potential of tourism and highlighted the demand for early completion of Lakhanpur-Mahanpur-Basohli road link and Dayala Chak Challain road and raised several other issues of the district.
