Dr Jitendra Singh lays foundation of Radio Station; Inaugurates Post Office Passport Seva Kendra

UDHAMPUR: Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region and Prime Minister’s Office, Dr Jitendra Singh today laid the foundation of 10 KW FM Transmitter with Studio Facility at Malhar, Udhampur.

MLA Udhampur, Pawan Kumar Gupta, Director General, All India Radio, Fayaz  Sheharyar, Deputy Director General, All India Radio, Aditya Chaturvedi and District Development Commissioner Udhampur, Niraj Kumar were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said the establishment of Radio station at Udhampur was a long pending demand of the people. He emphasized that the establishment of the radio station would provide a suitable platform to the artists of the area, adding, that a lot of artists could not get an opportunity to showcase their talent for want of a suitable platform.

Stating that Udhampur and adjoining areas are home to diverse  culture, Dr Singh said that the radio station would play an important role in showcasing the folk art of the area.  He further added that a lot of young talent would also get an opportunity to display their talent with the establishment of such a radio station and said that it would definitely help the youth to channelize their energy in a positive direction.

He further said that this is the first of its kind radio station and announced that two more such radio stations would be established at Nellore, Andhra Pradesh and Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The Minister lauded the efforts of MLA Udhampur, Director General AIR and District Development Commissioner Udhampur in this regard.

Later, Dr Singh also inaugurated the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra which was organized by the collaborative efforts of Ministry of External Affairs and Department of Post at the Head Post Office Udhampur.

The Union Minister, on the occasion, said that after Jammu and Srinagar, Udhampur is the first district to get such facility. He said the passport service centre (Passport Seva Kendra) would facilitate the passport service delivery and would cater to the needs of the applicants of Udhampur, Reasi and Ramban districts.

Highlighting various achievements of the Government, Dr Singh said that various initiatives have been taken by the present dispensation for the development of the state.

Stressing on the Devika River Rejuvenation plan, he said it was for the first time that one of the rivers of the Jammu and Kashmir would be rejuvenated on the lines of River Ganges. He said about Rs 170.5 crore have been sanctioned for this prestigious project.

He further assured that the present Government is endeavoring   to complete   the construction work of all the PMGSY Roads by 2019.
