JAMMU, Feb 5: To mark the achievement of 81 glorious years of imparting quality education and academic excellence, Model Institute of Education and Research (MIER) today celebrated its Foundation Day on February. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in PMO with Independent Charge of North Eastern States, was the chief guest while Padma Shree Balwant Thakur, Regional Director, ICCR, Government of India was the Guest of Honour and Mrs. Manju Singh an alumni of the Institute and wife of Dr. Jitendra Singh was the special guest.
Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were Principals of different schools and colleges of Jammu, distinguished alumni of MIER, the members of the Board of Directors, high-ranking officials, social activists, prominent citizens and large number of parents.
In his address, Dr.Jitendra Singh extended heartiest congratulations to MIER on this occasion and lauded the role of MIER for its persistent efforts in imparting and spreading qualitative education and for producing enlightened citizens. He exhorted the youth to equip themselves with the necessary skills to assume leadership role in all walks of life. He applauded the spectacular performance of the Natrang artists and their endeavor to revive and preserve the rich culture, traditions and heritage of   the State.
Maintaining that he had a privilege of being the student of this institute of excellence, Dr Singh said he had learnt a lot in the four walls of MIER during his studies there. Terming the founder of MIER H L Gupta a great visionary and educationist, he said had he not set up this education he would have ended up his career as a VC of some University in the country.
Dr Singh said the Late Gupta was a great scholar and the foundation laid by him has been now carried to third generation.  He was motivating students to such things which were unfamiliar at that time. He had ability of visualizing potential of his students and he had more than parents involvement with his students, he added.
He said MIER remained active in social service as well and He along with his team of Diebtes Care Foundation did research papers on diabetes in MIER. The Diabetes Care Foundation was first one organization in entire North India and Chairman MIER Arun Gupta is one of its Executive members.
In his address  Balwant Thakur congratulated MIER and said that it has been a pioneer institution in preparing high quality specialists and professionals in the field of education.
Chairman MIER and noted educationist Dr. Arun K. Gupta in his welcome address described Dr Singh as son of soil and an outstanding statesman. He said that it was a matter of great pride that Dr. Jitendra Singh who is an alumnus of Model Academy has brought laurels to the State through his stupendous achievements.
While welcoming Balwant Thakur, Dr.Gupta said that he is solely responsible for bringing Dogri theatre to international level. He is decorated with the highest Indian honour in performing arts “Sangeet Natak Akademi Award” for direction in theatre.
The Cultural Programme commenced with a mesmerizing Saraswati Vandana by MIER choir. A documentary titled “MIER: 80 Years of Educational Saga was released to celebrate the 80 glorious years of educational excellence of MIER group of institutions. The Natrang artists presented a captivating performance of various dance forms of the State which integrated Kashmiri, Dogri, Gojri, Pahari, Bhadarwahi and Ladakhi cultures.
