AMMU, Aug 12: Dr Kuldeep Singh Charak of Mathematics Department has been elected as new president of Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA), elections of which were held today.
In a straight contest, he defeated Prof Dipanker Sen Gupta of Economics Department with a margin of 60 votes. Kuldeep Singh secured 145 votes while Dipanker Sen, who could neither campaign nor cast vote because of his non-availability here following sudden death of his father in West Bengal last week, was polled only 85 votes.
For the post of vice-president, Prof Lalit Sen of MCA defeated Dr Vijay Sehgal of Law Department with a margin of 16 votes while for the post of secretary, Yog Raj of Political Science defeated Dr Vivek Sharma of Kathua Campus with a narrow margin of 8 votes.
However, Dr Vivek Sharma, Academic Coordinator in Kathua campus, was already elected for the post of joint secretary. Meghna Dhar of Library Science was also elected unopposed for the post of treasurer.
Total 240 votes were polled for the election of new JUTA office bearer.
The results were declared by Dr Manzoor Malik of Geology, who was appointed as the election commissioner. Dr Sanjay Gupta of Law School and Dr Jasveer Singh of Economics Department acted as Returning Officers.
