JAMMU, Mar, 11: Dr. Karan Singh President, Indian Council for Cultural Relations released the Album, ‘ICCR Jammu here today. Appreciating the efforts of Regional Centre Jammu and its Director Balwant Thakur, Dr. Karan Singh said that in such a short span of time, Jammu Centre has been able undertake an impressive number of National and International level cultural events in the city, thus adding to the rich cultural heritage of Jammu. Commenting on the Album, he said that with this kind of initiative in documenting the events, the pictorial information will be disseminated world over, thus projecting the local art and the artists on a global platform.
Giving details, Balwant Thakur informed that album contains artistically designed posters of all the 35 major events which Jammu centre conducted just in one and half year. ICCR’s Jammu Regional Centre was inaugurated by Dr. Karan Singh, President of ICCR on  May 25, 2012 and within a span of one and half year ICCR has established Jammu as an International destination of cultural happenings, he added.
He said in the last one and half year, ICCR organized 35 major cultural events which included three international presentations. The first in the series to come from outside India was the dances of Zambia. This amazing presentation was an eye opener for everyone and people over here were exposed to the International standards of performances and presentations. This was followed by the presentation of the music and dances of LAOS presented by a group of the musicians and dancers of People’s Democratic Republic of LAOS, he added.
He said the last group in the series was a Jazz band from Poland. During this period a cultural troupe of Jammu also went for cultural presentations to Central Asian Countries and visited Kazakhstan and Kirgizstan. At Bishkek, the Jammu group presented a cultural programme in the honour of the President of Kirgizstan. Under the popular Horizon Series programme, ICCR Jammu organized 31 programmes in Jammu, he added.
Balwant Thakur further said that realizing our constraints and limitations, efforts are being made to explore new avenues of collaboration and partnership with various Government Departments, and organisations in the furtherance of our objectives. Based on past one  and half year’s experience and the accomplishments we wish to take new departures to further strengthen this emerging cultural movement of the region and look forward for a continued support of all as always.
