Dr Koushal takes over as MS PGI Chandigarh, Dr Gupta superannuates

JAMMU, Dec 31: In a proud moment for the people of Jammu, while son of soil Dr AK Gupta today relinquished charge of the Medical Superintendent PGIMER Chandigarh on superannuation, another son of the soil Dr Vipin Koushal took over charge of the prestigious post.
Dr Gupta’s career spread over more than four decades is full of achievements and appreciation in various institutions especially the PGIMER Chandigarh, he was popularly known as `Teacher of the Teachers’ across the country. He has to his credit the unique distinction of being the longest serving Medical Superintendent-cum-Professor and Head, Department of Hospital Administration across the nation considering his association with the PGIMER Chandigarh which dates back to January 1996.
Dr Gupta is Fellow of Academy of Medical Sciences and was awarded Commonwealth Medical Fellowship for one year, availed at University of Liverpool, United Kingdom. The students trained by him have attained among the highest professional positions such as Lieutenant Generals, Air Marshal, Director AIIMS, Professors and Heads of the Department of top Institutes in India. He is an alumnus of GMC Jammu and AIIMS.
A number of Intellectuals, Professors, Judges, doctors and senior citizens today sent their congratulatory messages to Dr Gupta on superannuation.
On the other, Dr Vipin Koushal, who is also son of the soil took charge of the post of Medical Superintendent PGIMER Chandigarh from Dr AK Gupta.
Dr Koushal is a prolific student of Government School Reasi and Ranbir Higher Secondary Jammu and an alumnus of GMC Jammu. He did his Master’s degree in Hospital Administration from AIIMS New Delhi and presently lives in Chandigarh reaching out to poor and needy.
Dr Koushal has served as Incharge Nehru Hospital Extension PGIMER, Medical Superintendent AIIMS Bathinda, Nodal Officer of Regional Organ & Tissue Transplant Organizations under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India etc. He also had four-year stint as Medical Superintendent GMC Sector 32 Chandigarh. At all these postings, he made a mark for himself with robust reforms and effective administration.
