JAMMU, Aug 13: Dr Pavan Malhotra, Director-Principal and Professor of Pharmacology, Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) and Hospital, Sidhra (Jammu) has been awarded Honorary Doctorate (PhD) in Pharmacology and Medical Education by The Thames International University, France, in recognition of his services rendered in the field of Pharmacology and Medical Education.
The Degree was presented to Dr Malhotra by Pro-Chancellor of the University during the convocation which was attended by delegates all over the world. Dr Malhotra has become the first medical professional from J&K to have been bestowed upon the PhD (Honoris Causa) from an International University. Dr Malhotra an alumnus of Government Medical College, Jammu did his MBBS in 1989 followed by Post Graduation (MD) in Pharmacology in 1997.
A Pharmacologist of international repute, Dr Malhotra has brought many laurels to Jammu and Kashmir in the field of Medical Sciences. He became the first MRCP among Indian origin Pharmacologists from the Royal college of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Scotland in the year 2014 and subsequently he was conferred FRCP in 2019 by the same college.
He was bestowed upon the Fellowship of International Medical Sciences Academy (FIMSA) at Gulf Medical College, Ajman, UAE in the year 2012 by King of Ajman Sheikh Humaid bin Rasheed Al Nuaimi and president of IMSA, Dr K Jagadeesan. He was also conferred the Membership of National Academy of Medical Sciences in 2014 at AIIMS, Rishikesh.
In the year 2022, he was awarded FRCP by Royal College of Physicians of Edinburg. He is Life Member of various prestigious scientific organizations like Indian Science Congress Association, National Academy of Sciences – India, Indian Pharmacological Society, Indian Academy of Neurosciences, Diabetic Association of India etc and is also the founder member of Basic Medical Scientists Association of India.
