Dr Piyush Malaviya of JU gets OPCW Fellowship

JAMMU, Sept 25: Dr Piyush Malaviya, Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Science, University of Jammu (JU), has been awarded OPCW Fellowship by Office for Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), based in The Hague, The Netherlands.
The Fellowship covers all expenses for attending the International Contaminated Site Remediation Conference at Melbourne, Australia, which was organized last week by Cooperative Research Centre for Contamination Assessment and Remediation of the Environment, Australia.
During the Conference, Dr Malaviya presented his research on Tannery Wastewater Phyto-Microremediation. He also chaired a Technical Session on ‘Assessment and remediation of heavy metal contaminated sites’. About 700 scientists, engineers, regulators and other environmental professionals from more than 20 countries discussed all aspects of contaminated site assessment, management and remediation including emerging contaminants, petroleum hydrocarbons, green and sustainable remediation, risk assessment, contamination from chemical weapons and unexploded ordinances, heavy metal contaminated sites, and regulatory, legal, corporate and social issues.
