Dr Raj Kumar’s impressive painting show attracts art lovers

JAMMU, Apr 4:  The ongoing solo show of paintings by Dr Raj Kumar, the well known senior physician and dialectologist of winter capital, has impressed art lovers and professional artists for the lyrical quality of works that are ode to nature’s bounties as seen in varied landscape elements such as vibrant flowers, swaying plants, water in its various manifestations such as calm streams, turbulent waterfalls, majestic mountains et al.
The four-day exhibition titled ‘Passion’, inaugurated by Governor, N N Vohra, on April 2, 2013, at Kala Kendra, showcases the deep seated aesthetic preoccupation of the Dr Raj Kumar, who despite his teaching assignments at Government Medial College, busy practice hours, finds time to paint myriad hues of nature that for him are full of divine reflections.
The works on show, in fifth one-person show of the doctor\artist, reflecting Dr Raj Kumar’s continuing quest of new formal compositions as well as amalgamation of different media like charcoal, pastels, acrylic, are mini landscapes of swaying plants laden with flowers in full bloom, of languid ponds full of lotuses, of human figure with rhythmic movements amidst the Arcadian settings. Few works exhibiting artist’s favourite theme of ‘Ganesha’ which are also on show.
A multi-faceted personality, with hobbies ranging from photography, exploring forms in drift wood, sculpting in various media, Dr Raj Kumar is well known in artistic circle. His continuous interaction with visual artists has opened new vistas of art expression for him. He has been regularly organizing his shows and sharing his artistic expressions with public.
He has also participated in number of group shows, State and National level art exhibitions and also won many awards and honors. The exhibition is open till April 5, 2013, between 11 a m to 5 p.m.
