JAMMU, May 13: Coming down heavily on the discriminatory approach of successive Governments of Jammu and Kashmir towards Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other backward classes, Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Udit Raj has raised various issues of reserved classes of J&K during zero hour in the Lok Sabha.
The important issues highlighted by Dr Udit Raj included non-implementation of Mandal Commission Report which recommended 27 per cent reservation to OBCs instead of 2 per cent being given by J&K Government, dilution of Scheduled Tribes status by incorporating Pahari speaking people who otherwise do not qualify for the fundamental criteria for granting ST status to any community, new recruitment policy of J&K Government with no provision of reservation in it, denied reservation by State Government by appointment of more than 2 lakh people in the shape of temporary and contractual selection i.e ReT, ReZ, SPO, anganwadi workers, temporary appointment in PHE, PDD and RDD and other public sector undertakings and corporations which were later on regularized and discrimination being meted out to reserved class officers in transfer and posting.
He urged the Centre and the State Governments to pay due attention to the reserved classes and take firm steps to protect the interests of these marginalized classes.
