JAMMU, Jan 12: Although Diabetes Mellitus considered as a silent killer, involving more than 382 million in year 2013 and expected to reach 592 million by the year 2035 with an annual burden of $ 627 Billion annually, its treatment can be still more dangerous if not carried out properly .
This was stated by Dr Vinay Rampal during his recent lecture on “Hypoglycemia and Heart ” which he delivered on Platinum Jubilee of APICON – 2020 (Association of Physicians of India Conference -2020 ) held at Agra, UP and was inaugurated by Health Minister of U.P Suresh Khanna and attended by a record number of 12000 doctors.
The treatment of Diabetes Mellitus involves physical and dietary regulations, lowering of blood sugar levels through drugs like Insulin , Sulfonilureas and Meglitinides etc with prevention/ treatment of diabetic complications, mainly involving very small blood vessels in the kidney, eye and periphery with the drugs being the fulcrum. These drugs may at times lower the blood sugar level below the critical levels necessary for proper working of body mechanisms – a state called Hypoglycemia – which results in acute dangerous consequences with instant damages and death, Dr Rampal said.
