JAMMU, Oct 10: With his innovative zero error technique, Dr. Ranjit Singh, Senior Joint Replacement Surgeon at EMC Hospital Amritsar performed knee surgery of a 160 kg patient flawlessly.
In a handout Dr. Singh said, obesity is a major reason for knee arthritis among senior citizens.
He further said that obesity also results in the necessity of knee replacement earlier than usual age.
“Performing knee replacement surgery in an obese individual is technically a more challenging procedure requiring more time and greater exposure for surgical access,” Dr. Singh maintained.
He said, though joint replacement is often the only remedy for severe osteoarthritis, patients are often hesitant to get operated due to their weight.
“They fear from complications involved with being obese and feel that results might not be significantly improvised as compared to regular patients,” Dr. Ranjit informed.
Recently he performed three knee replacement surgeries on female patients weighing 115 kg, 110 kg and 105 kg with his innovative ‘zero error technique’ which is a very special technique and has made knee replacement painless and bloodless with 100 per cent success rate.
Dr. Singh said, with a very small cut on knee, this technology outshines the conventional methods of knee replacement in such a way that age, obesity and other risk factors don’t become hindrance in good results.
“The short surgical time of barely 20 minutes with minimal blood loss and muscle damage, the results of surgery are remarkable and quick,” he said adding that the patient resumes walk within two-three hours of the surgery with almost no visible pain and the patient becomes capable of climbing chair within few days.
