SRINAGAR, Nov 19: Dr Shabnam Ara, Assistant Professor Sociology Amar Singh College was conferred with prestigious Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme (IGNSS) Award for the year 2013-2014 by the President of India, Pranab Mukherji today in an impressive function at Rashtrapati Bhavan New Delhi.
Dr. Shabnam has been heading NSS unit at Amar Singh College from last four years and has been working tirelessly in the field of social service. Recognizing her contribution she was selected for the prestigious award and the award was given today at Rastrapati Bhavan.
Dr Shabnam is a noted sociologist and has authored two books. Her latest book “Social Thought and Indian Social System” was released in an impressive function at University of Kashmir last year. The book has been well received by the academicians and students.
Dr. Shabnam Ara after completion of her graduation from University of Kashmir, in 1996 and post graduation in Sociology from AMU, Aligarh, in 1999 did her Ph.D from Ranchi University, Ranchi, in 2008. Her first book “Impact of Militancy on women in Kashmir” is first serious and scientific attempt to analyze this complex phenomenon through empiricity. She has written many research articles in national and international journals.
