JAMMU, Dec 16: To honour health professionals with outstanding contributions in the Medical field, International Institute of Education and Management (IIEM)felicitated Dr Shashi S Sharma, Principal and Dean GMC Jammu with”Medical Excellence Awared 2022″ for her outstanding contribution to Medical Education and healthcare and COVID-19 mitigation in J&K in New Delhi.
K.L. Ganju (O.C.V.C), Consul General (Hony) of the Republic of Union of Comoros attended the function as chief guest while, Dr Jitender Singh Shunty, Padma Shree awardee and member National Human Rights Commissioner was also present.
It is worth mentioning that Dr Shashi S Sharma, a renowned Microbiologistand Educationist is credited with the diagnostics and management ofCOVID -19 in Jammu region and under her guidance Department of Microbiologyhas successfully tested about 16 lakh COVID-19 samples till date.
She is credited with the establishment of gene based diagnosis of viral diseasesin GMC, Jammu and under her leadership the VRDL lab at GMCJammuhas achieved new heights.
Dr. Sudhan heralded a newera inthefieldofSero Surveillance and Diagnostic Virology for various Viral Diseasesandtimely reporting of epidemics and outbreaks both to Directorateof HealthServices, Jammu and National Institute of Epidemiology, Chennai.
Under her flagship, VRDL GMC Jammu recently qualified the semifinals of prestigious SKOCH Award. She is currently Dean of 5 Medical Colleges, 2Dental Colleges and 2 Ayurvedic Colleges, Additionally Principal Govt AyurvedicCollege Akhnoor ,GMC Udhampur and was founder Principal GMCKathuaand Ex incharge Principal GMC Rajouri.
During the course of her 27yearsof academic career, she has been lauded and rewarded by numerousorganizations and Government bodies for her outstanding servicesinthemedical field.
