JAMMU, Nov 1: Dr Shashi Sudan, Professor and Head, Department of Microbiology, GMC Jammu, is new Principal of Government Medical College Kathua.
She took over the charge of the Principal, GMC Kathua, from Dr Bela Mahajan, who retired yesterday on attaining the age of superannuation.
Dr Shashi has established molecular diagnostics for viral epidemics like Swine flu and other Influenza viruses, Chikungunya, Zika, Japanese Encephalitis, etc in the Department of Microbiology, GMC Jammu under a centrally sponsored project entitled ‘Viral Research and Diagnostic Labs’ and is pioneer in setting up the gene based diagnosis for viral infections.
She has many research publications in indexed national and international journals and has contributed many book chapters. Recently she visited Washington and Columbia Universities in USA to upgrade her technical expertise. She is the only medical laboratory consultant trained in quality system management for accreditation of laboratories under NABL by Quality Council of India.
