Dr Vikas of SKUAST-J gets Young Scientist Award

JAMMU, June 27: Dr Vikas Sharma of SKUAST-Jammu has been conferred with Young Scientist Award-2017 for his exceptional research excellence in the area of anticancer studies.
The award was presented to Dr Vikas at International Conference on Agriculture, Horticulture and Plant Sciences, held yesterday at Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. This international event was organized by UGC International Journal of Tropical Agriculture and Academic Research Journals / Serial Publications, New Delhi.
In the conference, Dr Vikas Sharma also made a power point presentation on the topic “Punica granatum possesses in vitro cytotoxicity against lung cancer cells”.
Working as Asstt Professor in the Division of Biochemistry, Faculty of Basic Sciences, SKUAST-Jammu, Dr Vikas Sharma has evaluated many local medicinal plants from Jammu region for their anticarcinogenic properties and recently he reported that minor fruits of kandi belt like bael, karonda, jamun, phalsa etc suppress the proliferation of lung cancer cells.  He has published three international books on anticancer efficiency of Jammu botanicals.
