JAMMU, Feb 5: Minister for Finance, Labour and Employment, Dr Haseeb Drabu today called for building consensus at civil society level to sort-out the matter pertaining to the disputed land/ common land over the reconstruction of Gurudwara at Seer Manjila, Udhampur.
The Minister was replying to the discussion on a starred question of MLC Charanjeet Singh raised on January 19, 2018.
The Minister informed the House that the people belonging to various communities stake claim on the disputed land at the site. “Keeping in view the religious sentiments of the communities the matter is under consideration in the office of Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur,” he added.
He further said that the representatives of both the communities would be taken into confidence to build consensus on the land in question.
“The issue of construction of Gurudwara can be considered in the light of the judgment of the Supreme Court in the case titled Jagpal Singh and others V/s State of Punjab and others, dated 28.01.2011 of the High Court in case titled Charan Das and others V/s State of J&K and others in PIL number 327/ 2013 dated 11.03.2014 and directions of the High Court in this case OWP 146/2015 case titled Gurudwara Charan Kamal Asthan Gurunanak Sahab Seer Manjila and others V/s State of J&K and others dated 23.03.2015” he added.
Earlier raising the question Khalsa said that it was a historic Gurudwara as Guru Nanak Dev Ji on way from Ladakh visited this place. He said it is a sacred place and when the Gurduwara was constructed on this site it was torched in 1984.
Some vested elements created hurdle and they did not allow construction of Gurduwara there despite the fact that local people have no objection in the same. The people of the area said that the Gurduwara be constructed as there was no threat to peace.
Ramesh Arora, while taking part, in the discussion said every body’s sentiments be taken into consideration. The court has passed the speaking order and the DC should take the view of the same and pass orders for the construction of Gurdwara, he added.
