Drabu says sorry as NC resents ‘sit down’ remark

JAMMU, Mar 25: Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu today had to regret his remarks of asking National Conference MLA and former Minister Aga Syed Ruhulla to sit down by saying sorry in the Legislative Assembly.
Ruhulla interrupted Dr Drabu when he was replying to grants of Finance and Planning Departments in English. He wanted the Minister to speak in Urdu, the official language of the State.
As Drabu asked the member to sit down, NC MLAs Mohammad Akbar Lone and Devender Singh Rana were on their feet saying the Minister can’t direct the MLA to sit down as it was prerogative of the Speaker to accept or reject suggestion of the MLA.
“Only Speaker can advise the member to take seat and not the Minister. The Minister should regret the remarks,” Rana said as he was supported by other NC MLAs also.
`I’m sorry,” Drabu said and resumed his debate.
