UDHAMPUR, July 23: Open main holes and drains in the Udhampur town are inviting accidents, which could injure people and even claim lives.
A number of drain holes are without grill cover but the district administration and Municipal Council are in deep slumber over these death traps. A number of people have so far sustained injuries and vehicles damaged due to these open holes.
According to Rajesh Bharti, a shopkeeper in the Bus Stand area, the cover grill of the drain at entry point of the Bus Stand Udhampur was posing a big threat to the two -wheeler riders and also to the pedestrians.
A similar open drain near hospital road is also posing a big threat to the passersby. A local Sanjay Kumar alleged that grill cover of this drain was broken around six months back but till date the same was not replaced by the UMC, which was apparently waiting for some mishap to occur.
