JAMMU, Dec 16: On the second day of the ongoing Annual Drama Festival 2016-17, Manoranjan Kala Kendra staged the Punjabi play, ‘Sach Ki Be1a’, at Abhinav Theatre, here today.
Written by Charan Singh Sindhra and directed by Tejinder Singh Premi, the play came out as a critique our cultural, especially the moral values, which are crumbling at a fast pace under the onslaught of Western influence and the so-called accomplishments of the new age.
The play revolves around the four protagonists: the good and the angelic as Farishta, the sphere of culture of as Women, the mischievous elements as Shaitan, and the common human being as Manav.
Today’s performance full of allusions to the sacrifices of great men of different religions, like Christ, Prophet Mohammad, Garu Nanak, who raised voice against the evil forces in their times, and stood for brotherhood and amity amongst human beings, was presented in a melodramatic style. The characters like the angel, shaitan, dharti mata and aurat, moved back and forth between the real and the heavenly realms.
The appropriate costumes and light design were the highlight of today’s production which otherwise at times tended to be drab for the lengthy philosophy-loaded dialogues.
The actors were Tejinder Singh Premi as Manav, Mukesh Sharma as Farishta, Mausami Thakyal as Dharti, Chandni Gupta as Sabhyata, Ajay Sharma as Shaitan, Seema Choudhary, Rohit Kumar, Shahid Khan and Ajay Kumar as Chaar Shagird.
Tomorrow, Rajneesh Gupta’s adaptation of Rajinder Singh Bedi’s Hindustani play Kiraayedaar will be presented under the direction of Meera Tapasavi and Rajneesh Gupta by Chander Bhaga Sanskriti Manch.
