Officials told Excelsior that it was earlier decided to have additional hospital beds along the yatra route this year and after the consultations, it was decided to have two 50-bedded hospitals each at Chandanwadi and Baltal.
“Both the facilities which are currently being set up are near completion and in a couple of days will be handed over to the health department for further operations,” officials said.
The facilities are also going to have 25 beds fitted with the facility Liquid Medical Oxygen to ensure continuous oxygen supply to the patients.
“Apart from that, both the facilities which are being set up by the DRDO in close coordination with the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir and other allied departments, will have 4 ICU beds each, plus 2 more ICU beds which have been set up by the DHSK on its own,” Dr. Raafi Arshad, DHSK’s Nodal Officer for Amarnath Yatra said.
He said that in addition to the facilities for the patients, the hospitals which are coming up are also going to have the necessary accommodations for the staff which will be deputed to these facilities being put in place ahead of Yatra by June 27 the facilities will be made operational.
Notably, the facilities that are coming up have been made on modern lines while for the first time, central heating and central cooling systems have been used in the facilities set up at the high altitude.
Concerning the staff which will be stationed at these healthcare facilities on route to the Amarnath Cave, officials said the necessary deputations in this regard have already been made and the presence of sufficient staff will be ensured.
What is interesting here to note is that the DHSK is also going to have additional staff supplementations from outside states as well which helps them in managing the facilities and ensuring better patient care at these two facilities and other hospitals along the route.
