Driver arrested for endangering human lives, vehicle seized

KISHTWAR, Nov 24: District Police Kishtwar in its continuous efforts to regulate the traffic in the district and in order to minimize the road accidents and inconvenience to general public has taken several drastic steps.
As per official spokesman, on specific information that Shahnawaz Ahmed, son of Ghulam Rasool, a resident of Mandri is habitual of overloading the commercial cruiser vehicle, which he drove between Kishtwar and Sarthal.
A case under FIR Number 242 under Sections 279 and 336 RPC and the relevant provisions of  Motor Vehicle Act was registered at Kishtwar Police Station and the accused was arrested by SHO Kishtwar Inspector Sameer Jeelani. The vehicle was also seized.
During further investigation it was found that the vehicle crossed the Shalimar Police naka in overloaded condition and SSP Kishtwar has placed two police officials under suspension, who were present on that time.
SSP has also initiated the departmental enquiry against the suspended officials and the Incharge Police Post Shalimar ASI Mangat Ram.
SSP Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary has recommended the suspension of permit of the vehicle and license of the driver for a period of three months at least. He has instructed the ARTO Kishtwar to do the needful under intimation to the District Police office at an earliest.
When contacted, SSP said that there will be zero tolerance against the traffic violations especially overloading of passengers and rash driving. There will be no compromise on putting in risk the life and safety of the people, SSP added.
