RAMBAN, Jan 24: Police today arrested driver of a tempo traveler for allegedly raping a minor girl.
As per police sources, a minor girl hailing from village Tatarsu (5 km from Ramban) took a lift from a tempo traveler bearing registration number JK14B-7601 on January 21.
The driver of the vehicle identified as Ajaz Ahmed Khan, son of Mohammad Sharif Khan of village Tatarsu drove the vehicle to an isolated place and allegedly raped the girl.
The accused threatened the girl of dire consequence if she revealed the matter to anyone.
However, the girl on reaching home narrated the incident to her parents, who reported the matter to police station Ramban yesterday.
After registering a case at police station Ramban under FIR number 6/14 under Sections 363, 376 and 377 RPC police started investigation.
The girl was restored to family members after conducting medical examination at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Banihal.
On specific inputs, police today arrested the accused and also seized the vehicle.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
