Driver, associate arrested for smuggling bovines to Valley

UDHAMPUR, Mar 4: Chenani police arrested a driver and his associate for smuggling 15 bovine animals to Valley.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Chenani police station laid a naka and signaled a truck bearing registration number JK02BM-3485 to stop for checking.
On seeing police team, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops chased and intercepted the vehicle near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police rescued 15 bovine animals from the vehicle and arrested the driver and his associate.
The accused have been identified as Mudassir Ahmed, son of Ali Mohammad and Basarat Rasheed, son of Abdul Rasheed, both residents of Kulgam.
The accused were smuggling the bovine animals to Valley, but active cops of Chenani police station foiled their bid.
A case under FIR Number 21/16 under Section 188 RPC and 3 PCA Act has been registered against the accused at Chenani police station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Chenani police station Inspector Mahesh Sharma made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Chenani Vinod Sharma, Additional SP Mohan Lal Kaith and SSP Udhampur Suleman Choudhary.
