Driver, cleaner among 4 killed in truck mishap

Police personnel inspect the spot after a truck rolled down a bridge on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, at Jhajjar Kotli in Jammu & Kashmir. At least four people were killed, according to officials.

JAMMU, Oct 20: Four people including driver and cleaner of a truck were killed today when their vehicle rolled down the road in Jhajjar Kotli area on City outskirts.
As per the reports, an apple-laden truck bearing registration number RJ13BG-5654 rolled down the road at Jhajjar Kotli on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and fell onto the old route of the Highway when the driver of the vehicle lost control over the speeding vehicle while negotiating a curve.

The mishap occurred around 2 am today when the ill-fated truck was on its way from Kashmir towards Jammu. As soon as the accident occurred, the locals and a team of Police Station Jhajjar Kotli rushed to the spot and launched rescue operation. In a hectic rescue operation, the bodies of the four persons onboard the vehicle were retrieved from the truck and were shifted to mortuary room of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Jhajjar Kotli, Azad Ahmed Manhas told Excelsior that there were four people including driver and cleaner in the vehicle when the mishap took place and all of them died on the spot. “The deceased are yet to be identified,” he said, adding, the owner of the truck in Rajasthan has been informed about the tragedy and they (Police) are waiting for him to come and identify the dead bodies.
The Officer said that a case in this connection has been registered at Police Station Jhajjar Kotli and further investigation started.
