Driver critical as Sumo skids into deep gorge

POONCH, Dec 9: The driver of a Tata Sumo was critically injured after it landed into a deep gorge at Shahpur in district Poonch this evening.
A police spokesman said that the mishap took place at around 5.30 pm when the driver of the Sumo bearing registration No. JK02AH/6608 boarded off  9 passengers at Shahpur Ziarat and then started turning the vehicle. The road was narrow and the passengers were also standing nearby. While turning the vehicle back, the rear wheel went off the road and the vehicle landed into nearly 300 ft deep gorge.
The driver Karnail Singh, son of Kulbir Singh, resident of Kamsar in Poonch was critically injured and was evacuated to Poonch hospital after long searches by the villagers and police. He was later referred to GMC Jammu for the specialized treatment.  The pilgrims had come from Jammu and after prayers, they had to return.
