RAMBAN, Nov 16: A driver was killed while seven others sustained injuries in vehicles collision inside Chenani-Nashri tunnel on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway here today.
As per police sources, a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration No JK15-2403 which was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar driven by Manzoor Ahmed Mir son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir, a resident of Sumbal Ghat, Sonawari, Bandipora with five more passengers had head collision with Mini Truck (407) bearing registration no JK02AB-4094 which was on its way from Ramban to Udhampur driven by Sunil Singh, son of Mohan Singh, a resident of Digdol, District Ramban, resulting into injuries to eight person.
All the injured persons were immediately evacuated to a hospital in Chenani, where doctors declared driver of Scorpio as brought dead.
After initial treatment, other seven injured persons were referred to a hospital in Udhampur, from where five were further referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu for specialised treatment.
The injured were identified as Mohammad Yousuf, son of Ghulam Mohidin, Bashir Ahmed, son of Ghulam Mustafa Rather, Masood Ahmed, son of Abdullah Rashid, Firdous Ahmed, son of Bashir Ahmed and Ali Mohammad, son of Ghulam Mohammad, all residents of District Bandipora, Sunil Singh (driver of mini-truck), son of Mohan Singh of Digdol District Ramban and Santosh Singh, son of Thakur Dass of Sangaldan, District Ramban.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Police Station Batote and investigation started
