KATHUA, Oct 22: A truck driver was killed after his vehicle fell down in a 250 metre deep gorge near Ghalak in Billawar tehsil of Kathua district early this morning.
He has been identified as Vijay Singh, son of Puran Singh of Raghu Chak, Ghagwal.
According to Billawar police, Raghu who was driving the truck bearing number JK21 A 0588 left his house early this morning towards Dhar road via Dayala Chak and after reaching near Ghalak he lost control on the steering resulting in the skidding of the truck down into a 250 metre deep gorge and his instant death.
The people of the area came to know about the accident early in the morning when they saw the truck lying in the gorge in a damaged condition. They rushed to the spot and found the driver lying in a pool of blood. The people informed the Police Post Ramkote. A police team led by PP Incharge and SHO Billawar visited the area and shifted the driver to Billawar hospital for post mortem. The dead body was later handed over to family members for last rites.
The Ramkote Police has registered a case under relevant section of the law.
