Driver returns valuables to tourist

Srinagar, June 24: In a heartwarming and extraordinary gesture, a tourist taxi driver today returned the belongings worth Rs 10 lakh to the tourists who had hired the cab and forgotten their valuables.
The driver was identified as Tariq Ahmad from south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
The tourist group from Bhopal had hired the cab up to Aharbal waterfall and had forgotten some items including gold and cash, amounting to around Rs 10 lakh, in the cab. The valuables included gold and cash,
The driver on his way back from Aharbal noticed the items in the cab. He returned all the way back to return the items to the tourists.
The act of honesty has been praised by all including the driver community associated with tourism.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian Owais Ahmed while terming people of the district as ‘people with gold heart’ wrote on Twitter: “Tariq, driver by profession, found a bag with cash and jewellery worth around Rs 10 lakh and 3 high end mobile phones at Aharbal. He waited for a call on these phones, made sure it is returned to its owner and didn’t accept anything in return. Shopian people with a heart of gold.”
