RAMBAN, Aug 12: In an ‘imminent’ security threat ahead of Independence Day celebrations, a driver was robbed of his car by six unidentified persons near Chanderkote on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway late last evening.
Police spokesman said that two unidentified persons hired Swift car bearing registration number PB35P-4434 for Srinagar from Pathankote and paid Rs 5000 in advance to the taxi driver namely Veer Singh.
At Jammu, four more unidentified persons boarded the vehicle and when it reached near Chanderkote one of them got the vehicle stopped on the pretext of attending nature’s call. Later, all the six persons tied the driver with the tree on the roadside after gagging his mouth and then fled with the vehicle.
The incident was spotted by Road Opening Party of CRPF this morning and accordingly, on the statement of driver, a case was registered at Ramban Police Station for investigation. However, neither the vehicle nor the persons could be traced late this evening.
