Driver washed away, one injured as truck plunges in Chenab

RAMBAN, Mar 2: A driver got washed away while one another received injuries when the truck they were traveling in skidded off the road and fell into river Chenab and got submerged near Mehad area on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
As per police sources, a Jammu bound truck bearing registration number JK03B-9332 skidded of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and fell into river Chenab near Mehad, resulting into injuries to one person. The truck later got submerged in river Chenab and it was assumed that the driver got washed away.

The injured identified as Adil Hameed, son of Mohammad Latief of Shangus District Anantnag was shifted to District Hospital from where he was later discharged after first aid.
To retrieve the body of the washed away driver identified as Umar Shafi, son of Mohammad Sgafi, a resident of Ganipura Mattan District Anantnag was launched. The body of the deceased driver could not be fished out from the river.
Meanwhile, demanding resuming of search operation, the family members of the driver reached the spot, held protest and blocked the vehicular movement on the National Highway.
On getting information, police team reached the spot and again launched search operation, but all in vain.
Tomorrow again, the search operation will be launched to fish out the body of the deceased driver from the river.
However, a case under relevant sections has been registered at Ramban Police Station and investigation started.
Later, on the request of senior police cops, the protestors dispersed and the vehicular movement was restored on the highway.
