Drivers protest at Lakhanpur

Excelsior Correspondent
KATHUA, May 25: The drivers and conductors today protested in front of Sales Tax Deputy Commissioner’s Office at Lakhanpur near here against the slow functioning of the newly introduced on line system for verification of Sales Tax at import and export section of ST Department at Lakhanpur.
The protectors shouting slogans against the department said that they face harassment as they have to wait for a long time for clearance of documents due to slow functioning of the system. They demanded that till the departmental people are fully trained in computerization of the system introduced recently at Lakhanpur Toll Post, the manual system should also be allowed to continue.
However, when contacted the DC Sales Tax, Pankaj Mangotra said that the problem will continue till the staff engaged on on line system gets fully trained. He also favoured continuance of manual system for the time being.
The delay in the functioning of online system has led to traffic jams up to late night hours and this has caused a lot of resentment among the drivers.
