Consignment recovered in Poonch

JAMMU, Nov 23: Army and Police today averted what could have been a major tragedy by effecting recovery of a consignment of arms and explosives including nine grenades dropped by a drone along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jourian area of Akhnoor in this district early today.
Acting on specific inputs, Army and police conducted searches in forward villages of Jourian and recovered the consignment which had been dropped through drone from across the LoC.
The terror operative(s) who had to pick up the consignment and transport it to the militants were not spotted as they had probably become aware of Army and police movement in the area and recovery of the weaponry.
Seizure included nine grenades, one Turkey made pistol with two magazines, 38 live rounds and one battery operated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
“Had the consignment fallen in hands of the terror operatives, there could have been major catastrophe,” the officials said.
They said based on the inputs from troops deployed in the forward areas of having heard quadcopter noise, a joint search operation was conducted by police and Army in the vicinity of Laukikhad bridge early today.
“A package along with dropping string was recovered. This has been one of the biggest hail of quadcopter dropped war like stored in Akhnoor sector which is aimed to revive terrorism in Rajouri and Akhnoor sectors of the Jammu region,” the officials said.
They said the security forces are committed to thwart inimical designs of the adversary and continue to play an important role in regional security for development of Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, security forces recovered another consignment of arms and ammunition from the house of an Over Ground Worker (OGW) at Seri Khawaja area of Poonch.
Recoveries including one 9 MM pistol, one magazine and six 9 MM rounds were made from the house of Ghulam Mohammad son of Gaffara Joo of Seri Khwaja under the jurisdiction of Mandi Police Station.
DySP Operations Poonch Choudhary Ajaz led the operation.
He said the OGW was not present in the house at the time of raid and a hunt has been launched to nab him.
