The initiative seeks to address the challenges caused by vehicle checking, baggage screening, and personal frisking processes, which have been causing significant delays for passengers entering the airport.
Javed Anjum, Director of Srinagar Airport, officially launched the e-Carts and announced that initially, four vehicles will be put into operation, with plans to increase the fleet over time.
“The main idea is to ensure that passengers have a seamless travel experience, and with this initiative in place, we can improve it further based on the feedback from the passengers,” stated Anjum.
Under the new system, passengers will leave their vehicles at the drop gate and undergo a swift baggage screening process using X-ray technology.
Once the screening is complete, passengers can conveniently board the newly introduced eco-friendly battery-operated e-Carts, which will transport them to the terminal building.
Vinay, a passenger who utilized the e-Cart service, expressed his appreciation for the Airport authorities’ efforts, stating that this initiative should have been implemented earlier.
“Now that the step has been taken, they deserve to be appreciated. Earlier, we used to have to walk about 1 km distance from the gate to the terminal, which was quite tiresome,” he added.
Another passenger, Gaurav, praised the ‘Drop & Go’ initiative as a much-needed service. “Elders and children often faced difficulties, as sometimes taxis remained unavailable, and after the baggage screening, they used to have no choice but to walk the entire distance. The authorities have taken a much-needed step,” he commented.
