DRSC reviews road safety measures in Doda

DODA, July 2: Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh, who is also the Chairman of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC), today reviewed the road safety measures and issues at a meeting of the Committee.
The meeting was attended by SSP Javid Iqbal; ADC Sudershan Kumar; CPO Manesh Kumar Manhas; Chief Education Officer PL Thapa; Chief Medical Officer Om Parkash; ARTO Rajesh Kumar Gupta, SE PWD Circle Doda, DFO Doda and representatives from NHIDCL, Traffic, SDRF, IRAD, along with other officers and officials of the District Road Safety Committee.
A thorough discussion on safety parameters for the national highway from Doda to Batote was held with the NHIDCL officer. He was directed to install traffic signs and safety measures, particularly in the Assar area, The emphasis was laid on the speed limit signs.
The DC directed the district police and traffic officers to keep check on idle parking on the highway and take action against unauthorized vehicles. He instructed the DySP Traffic to set up checkpoints to control vehicle speed in public areas and to challenge overloaded vehicles. He asked to register FIRs against habitual offenders. The NHIDCL officers were directed to ensure proper road markings to prevent overtaking.
Additional directives included the installation of mile stones along the highway, adherence to all action points discussed in the meeting, widening of hairpin curves to prevent accidents, blacktopping of rough areas, and ensuring a well-maintained drainage system.
Other road safety measures discussed included the installation of crash barriers, speed breakers, rumble strips, and traffic signs near markets, schools, and other sensitive areas.
The meeting also covered roadside amenities and the issue of roadside dumping. The DC also interacted with the SDMs virtually to review road safety measures across the district.
